Lunenburg Doc Fest is proud to announce the Canadian Premiere screening of Yo (Love is a Rebellious Bird) at its opening gala on September 24, 2026.

“Nova Scotia has many passionate documentary film fans, so we get extra excited when our harbour town festival is given the honour of presenting a Canadian premiere,” says Walter Forsyth, Executive Director of Lunenburg Doc Fest. “We are also delighted to share the news that Yo’s directors will be present, adding to the premiere experience.”

The documentary, co-directed by Anna Fitch and Banker White, is already charming audiences. After its release in February 2026 at the Berlin International Film Festival, Yo (Love is a Rebellious Bird) won the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution and popular critics, such as Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, commend the film as joyful and moving.

"We love films that celebrate life and friendships", says Forsyth. "Anna met Yo when she was 24 and Yo was 73. Now 44, Anna has constructed a world of miniatures, scale models, and collages with painstaking care and precision so their relationships can live on."

Gala and other passes to the Lunenburg Doc Fest are on sale now. Early bird rates will last until September 11 while passes for students and first-time attendees are offered a major discount throughout.
